Rain and then there was more
« on: February 08, 2010, 09:28:19 AM »
Last year in my neck of the woods I stopped keeping up with the rain measurements in early November and at that time it was 101 and three tenths inches. It rained more between then and the end of December. The new year is starting off it much the same way. Here we are in the second week of February and the rain meter (a straight sided dog dish), I haven't put the gauge back up yet, is at 5 1/2 inches already. Now this is accurate measurements being recorded. It is two and one eighth inches to the second joint of my index finger on my right hand. Left hand finger is a tad bit shorter. Any how it is raining today and at this point I'm way past soggy.

Fishing should be great this year. Of course finding the boat ramps might be a little hard, most are under water.

Not only is it raining again but it is a cold rain and back yard resembles a small lake or a large mud hole...

I don't know about that accurate measuring device you have there..

Time to start thinking about some early crops for the garden but much too wet to do at this time...

Need to do some more tilling but I would just bog down in the mud and make holes...so will have to wait...

Maybe the rain will slack off soon I hope...

I have developed a strong dislike for water. Perhaps even a fear. I have no desire to go to the lake. My back yard resembles a sponge in that a simple step causes water <shudder> to be squeezed out.

I am considering the sale of my mower since my yard is turning into a river (if I can wade the mud to get to it) and the purchase of pontoons for my house (if I had the money).

I find the concept of a bath to be frightening. It's the w ... wate <shudder> ... you know ... Must see a shrink about that. I wonder if the shrinks in the area are having fears of wa<shudder>ter as well? I wonder who they go see?

I no longer check the weather or watch the forecasts on TV. It is just too frightening! I prefer Steven King or some extreme horror movie instead.

Please do not mention the "r"(ain) word anymore. I do not think I can handle it! We've not been in Lamar County Texas two years yet <sob> and I can hardly remember a dry day. All this ... I just can't type it. Sorry.

I feel your pain or something like that. You can deny, deny, deny but the cold hard truth should set in maybe starting tonight. The slip and fall era may be about to over take those of us that fall hard and fast and get up slow and carefully. The rain has made the pecans easier to pick up because the rain has washed them up to high ground. Just gonna have to wait til I don't sink to my ankles to pick them up. Come about late June or early July we probably will be looking for some of this wet stuff. Mean while keep your rubber boots and walking stick close at hand.
