Healthcare that doesn't care
« on: October 30, 2009, 06:56:34 PM »
We got the new packet for our healthcare "benefits". <cough>

Being "retired" - translated as taking the money and trying to make it - we were covered by Julie's former employer. It was a benefit of retirement and years of service negotiated by the Union.

This contract, the company decided to refuse to negotiate for retired employees. I wonder why the F they call the employees if they are not going to be covered under the same company agreement as the other employees?

Anyway, now we will have to pay a bit for our healthcare benefits. Only about $25 bucks a month at the moment. Still, on a fixed income that can be a lot!

I'm really not sure what the government has in store, but I hope it is something. My step daughter and family have nothing. Can't afford the cost for even the cheapest insurance that covers nothing more than an aspirin.

I'm not looking for a handout. Just to be taken care of by the government that we pay taxes and other stuff for.

This whole thing sucks!   >:(

I'm not sure that Julie or I could hold down a job. Even then, it probably wouldn't offer benefits. I often wonder what is the use in trying. All I'll get is kicked down for my efforts.  :'(

The problem as I see, things are going down hill fast...My insurance from work just went up and if they put the health care bill in as it is now it will go up some more...Can't afford to put my wife on it and maybe can't afford it at all later..

With you making so little you may come out good on the health care bill, (still unknown)...I am sure it won't work for me because I make too much right now...and if the government makes people buy insurance that they cannot afford this will take this country down, IMHO...

I don't know where this is going but so far I don't like what I am reading about it...

Percentages mean little until one puts real numbers in place and defines some things.

Let us assume (ASS-U-ME) that the 2% includes all of the USA population (including children and such). Currently the site at "http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=uspopulation&met=population&tdim=true&q=USA+population" says that the USA has about 300 million people. 2%of that is about 6,000,000. Not a small number unless one is trying to make it small by doing percents. ;)

I despised percents when I was working on union contract negotiations. The company offered 3% across the board. That meant that a person making $10 an hour got 3 cents an hour raise while the person making $20 an hour got 6 cents. Then the company and workers could not get it through their heads why the pay gap was so wide. Of course, the $20 and hour and above people were happy. The rest of us just had to grin and bare it (no lube).

Anyway, I'll be happy with the 2%. Who knows, we might be in that percentile. At least the insurance companies won't be getting a blank check.

Of course, I could be all wrong. After all, I only made it through high school ... barely (no lube there either).

Well I did not make very fr after high school just one year and yes a percentage can be hard to deal with some times.

I just don't think they are doing it right and as you no most anything the government gets involved with get s screwed up...

There will be tons of paper work and a lot if's and therefore's..

I agree that something needs to happen with health care but I think there are different ways to attack the problem other than a national social health care program...

I agree that there is a better way. The government could set a cap of premiums or other such regulations. But that isn't gonna happen in this deregulated society.

And, yes, there will be paperwork and other bureaucratic crap to go though. That happens now in insurance and other areas. You gotta document every time you fart or wipe and give details.

I dunno. Guess we will wait and see.

If anyone expects the gov't to make this health care ponzi scheme to work there are no percentage scales that can balance a poor man's pocket book. Anything that can be written on less than five pieces of paper but the 'experts' have to use 1960 pieces of paper can only mean one thing , you will need the extra paper to wipe off the excess lube.
